Max Degen: PowerBALD

powerBald

PowerBALD is LottoPGF’s first-ever use case and represents our MVP.

Officially launched in January 2024, the game is free to play on DEGEN chain and is natively accessible to Farcaster users through Frames.

Within just a few months of launching, over 40,000 tickets had been claimed by more than 16,000 unique players.

Rather than relying on incumbent Verifiable Randomness Function (VRF) solutions, PowerBALD features a new drand implementation, marking LottoPGF’s ongoing commitment to pushing the boundaries of permissionless, decentralised, publicly verifiable randomness technology.

Furthermore, our use of advanced algorithms, with stateless shuffles, makes LottoPGF the only protocol of its kind; offering efficient and scalable lottery solutions.

LottoPGF’s main objectives with PowerBALD have been as follows:

  1. Battle test our new EVM-compatible drand

  2. Put the early versions of our contracts to the test

  3. Grow our community in Farcaster - while helping other public goods projects grow theirs.

The volume of ticket claims, combined with LottoPGF’s active social layer (LottoPGF has nearly 27.5k followers on Warpcast, with another 11.5k followers to the /lotto channel), created a tight feedback loop which set us up to launch two iterations of PowerBALD.

PowerBALD also served as a proof of concept for lotteries as a capital formation mechanism. While free-to-play, an optional ticket donation function was added, which raised over USD$1,500 for Giveth’s Galactic Giving Quadratic Funding round in three days.

Each season of PowerBALD is made possible by generous sponsors, like gmoney or WarpWatch. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor, reach out to @nicnode on Warpcast.
